DTS/Maerua Superspar Beach Volleyball- & 4-a-side Social Tournament
The 5th of 7 tournaments this year took place on Saturday with 34 teams participating in the 2010 DTS Maerua Superspar Volleyball Series in nice & warm weather conditions.
4 Ladies 2-a-side teams took part and they played in a round robin format to determine the best team. 3 of the six matches played, were hard fought and only decided in the decisive 3rd set. Julia Laggner/Corinna Wahl, the junior team in the ladies categories lost 2 matches by close margin, nearly upsetting the 2 more experienced teams of Wiebke Hoeritzauer/Antje Kesselmann and Karin Curschmann/Brigitte Looser. Laggner/Wahl gave them a hard time losing only 13-15 and 10-15 in the 3rd set tie break respectively clinching 3rd place overall. Curschmann/Looser advanced as winners with a 25-23, 21-14 win over Hoeritzauer/Kesselmann.
The Men competition saw Mwita Sikopo/Rector Mbeha back on the beach courts after being absent for 2 months. They proved to be the team to beat and had no problems reaching the finals where they met no. 3 seeded team Deon Cloete/Michael de Koe. Sikopo/Mbeha won comfortably with 2-0 sets clinching their 2nd title this year. Third place went to Ruben Delie/Jerome de Wee.
The Youth competition attracted 6 teams and they played round robin format, 15 games in total which kept them busy untill late afternoon. Many games had to be decided in 3 set tiebreak matches. Gian Rudolph/Tin Hlupic and Christoph Thesen/Erik Fischer were the 2 unbeaten teams after 13 games and their match proved to be the final. Rudolph/Hlupic were just too strong and won 21-15, 21-10 winning the tournament. A very strong team of Wolfgang Erb/Rico Behrens came third.
The 4-a-side social category had 18 teams battling it out for the tournament title. The top 8 teams that qualified for the 1/4 finals were The Uncardables, Simana Stars, Die Pauker, Fx Fitness, Cats & Dogs, Five Warriors, OTB and Woema Putte. Current leaders and defending champions The Uncardables played against Die Pauker in the semi final winning comfortably with 2-0 sets, qualifying once again for the final. The other semi final was a thriller between Cats & Dogs and OTB. Cats & Dogs winning the first set, OTB coming back to equalize and then also winning the decisive 3rd set to qualify for the final. Just like last tournament the final was once again between The Uncardables and OTB and played under flood flight and once again the final was a 3 set match but this time OTB took revenge and walked away as winners by 2-1 sets. It was also the match between the main attackers Nchindu Sinvula from The Uncardables and Peter Brinkmann from OTB. Brinkmann was just too strong and was also voted FX Fitness Man of the Match. Third place went to Cats & Dogs.
Coinciding with the World Wide "Volley All Day" by the FIVB, the Namibia Volleyball Federation, handed out Volleyballs for all participating junior players and an exhibition match between DHPS and Delta School closed off the day with Delta School winning 2-0 sets.

The next DTS-Maerua Superspar tournament will be held on 09 October at DTS in Windhoek, while the next Volleyball activity will be a 4-a-side Volleyball for All on 25 September at DTS.
The fourth of 7 tournaments this year took place on Saturday and Sunday with 25 teams participating in this 2010 DTS Maerua Superspar Volleyball Series.
4 Ladies 2-a-side teams took part and they played in a round robin format to determine the best team. Swiss/Luxembourg combination Brigitte Looser/Stéphanie Beckéne were the favourites and proved to be the team to beat. Last years no 1 team Anita Kinder/Karin Curschmann had the best chances and were looking good after the first set win of 21-10. Looser/Beckéne winning the second set 21-18 and managed to overcome Kinder/Curschmann 15-10 in the third set to win the tournament. Third place was hard fought with Kinder/Curschmann winning only in 3 sets 21-23, 22-20, 16-14 against Wiebke Hoeritzauer/Julia Laggner.
The Men competition saw Joel Matheus/Thomas Nashi defending their title from last tournament with a extremely close victory against Ruben Delie/Walter Farmer. 21-19, 22-24, 18-16 was the final score in this dramatic match. Third place went to Ananias/Ndjuluwa.
The Youth competition attracted 4 teams and they also played round robin format. Wolfgang Erb/Gian Rudolf were unbeaten during the day and clinched victory by beating their closest rivals Tin Hlupic/Bernard Schurz. Erb/Rudolf managed to gain victory for the second time in a row. Third place went to the young upcoming ladies team Nadja Schatz/Almut Hoffmann.
The 4-a-side social category had 10 teams battling it out for the tournament title. The first semi final was played between the current leaders of the league, The Uncardables, against Ice Dogz Paws & Claws. The Uncardables winning that game comfortably 2-0 sets. The second semi final was a thriller between Cats & Dogs and O T B Sport. O T B losing the first set 21-10, but coming back 21-19 in the second set. Great defence by Cats & Dogs made it nearly impossible for OTB to gain advantage of their strong attackers, but their experience made them win the third set 15-13 and they advanced to the finals where they met with The Uncardables. O T B traditionally losing the first set, came back winning the second set, but this time in the decisive set, they were giving away a 12-6 lead to loose 15-13 at the end giving The Uncardables their third victory of the year. Third place went to Cats & Dogs
Tawanda Munyawiri from the Cats & Dogs team was voted as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Male Player of the tournament while Kerstin Frenzel from Farmers Attack was chosen as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Female Player of the tournament.

The third of 7 tournaments this year took place on Saturday with 35 teams participating in this 2010 DTS Maerua Superspar Volleyball Series.
7 Ladies 2-a-side teams took part and they played in a double elimination format to determine the best team. No 1 seeded team Karin Curschmann/Anita Kinder reached the semi finals where they met no 3 seeds Katja Biesemann/Nicole Giberson who had to fight their way through the losers round after losing to Julia Laggner/Corinna Wahl (no 2 seed) in a first round match. Biesemann/Giberson managed to upset the no 1 team by winning 2-0 and reached the final where they were once again facing Laggner/Wahl who managed to beat Martha Andreas/Dina in the semi final. Biesemann/Giberson managed to take revenge for the first round defeat and were just too strong for the young unexperienced team Laggner/Wahl beating them easily 2-0 sets. Kinder/Curschmann came 3rd.
The Men competition saw 6 teams competing. Joel Matheus/Thomas Nashi were the favourites and they qualified easily for the finals without losing a single set. In the final they were facing Michael de Koe/Martin Festus who managed to come back from the losers round beating no. 2 seeded team Heiko Diehl/Felix Hartgenstein in the semi final. Matheus/Nashi were just too strong and managed to win easily by 2-0 sets winning the mens tournament title. 3rd place went to Diehl/Hartgenstein who beat the Viggo von Scheliah/Leander Schatz in the playoff.
The Youth competition attracted 10 teams and they also played a double elimination format. Christopher Rix/Kristof Lerch came back from the losers round into the semi finals where they played against Chris Thesen/Jens Doll. Rix/Lerch won that game and where facing a very strong team of Wolfgang Erb/Gian Rudolf who beat Tin Hlupic/Bernard Schurz in the semi final. Erb/Rudolf managed to gain victory clinching the title of this tournament. Hlupic/Schurz came 3rd.
The 4-a-side social category had 12 teams battling it out for the tournament title. In a very strong field of teams, the Winners of the last 2 tournaments, The Uncardables, did not qualify for the next round. In the semi finals the Die Pauker had a tough match against NDF team Simana Stars beating them only in 3 sets 2-1. Unbeaten team The Jumpin Potatoes were facing FX Fitness in the other semi final. They won the first set comfortably 21-16 lost the second set and also lost the third decisive set 15-12 to FX Fitness. The final between Die Pauker and FX Fitness was played under floodlight and both teams won 1 set. As a very experienced team, Die Pauker managed to win the 3rd set and the tournament for the first time. Third place went to the Simana Stars.
Heiner Ihlein from the Jumpin' Potatoes was voted as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Male Player of the tournament while Corinna Wahl was chosen as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Female Player of the tournament.

Social & Mini Volleyball Tournament / 24 April 2010
The second of 7 tournaments this year took place on Saturday with 31 teams
participating in this 2010 DTS Maerua Superspar Volleyball Series in windy
weather conditions.
8 Ladies 2-a-side teams took part and they played in a double elimination
format to determine the best team. Swiss/Canadian combination Brigitte
Looser/Nicole Giberson were seeded number one and they managed to reach the
semi finals without loosing a set. Junior team Julia Laggner/Corinna Wahl,
seeded 5th, were fighting their way through the losers round, beating no. 2
seeded team Anita Kinder/Katja Biesemann and were facing Looser/Giberson in
the semi finals, but were unable to cause another upset and Looser/Giberson
won 2-0 qualifying for the finals. The second semi final saw no. 3 seeds
Wiebke Hoeritzauer/Antje Kesselmann play agaist no 4 Karin Curschmann/Teja
Lueck. Hoeritzauer/Kesselmann won comfortably 21-13/21-18 qualifying for
the finals against Looser/Giberson. In a very close final
Hoeritzauer/Kesselmann showed their skill and routine, winning the first
set 22-20 and in the second set punishing every mistake, winning 21-18 and
gaining their first tournament title since 2008. Third place went to
Laggner/Wahl.
The Men competition saw 5 teams competing in a round robin format. Mwita
Sikopo who played with Deon Cloete instead of his absent partner Rector
Mbeha had to settle for second place after a tight match against Ruben
Delie/Michael De Koe, who won in a close 3 set tie break match, 21-14,
18-21, 13-15 against Sikopo/Cloete. Delie/De Koe did not loose any match
and won the mens competion. Sikopo/Cloete were runners up while Walter
Farmer/Jerome De Wee came third.
The Youth competition attracted 6 teams and they also played a round robin
format. Unbeaten for the tournament, winning all 5 matched were Michael
Sickel/Ingo Fischer. Runners up were Gero Talkenberg/Jens Deloch. Third
placed team Christopher Rix/Thorsten Koepp.
The 4-a-side social category had 12 teams battling it out for the
tournament title. The best 8 teams were Woema Putte, The Uncardables,
Farmers Attack, Jumpin Potatoes, Fx Fitness, Die Pauker, Funky Monkeyz and
The Underdogs. In the semi finals the Die Pauker lost 2-0 against the Fx
Fitness team, while The Uncardables beat the Jumpin Potatoes 2-0. In an
exiting final the first set was won by The Uncardables 23-21. In the second
set Fx could not make use of their tall attackers and had to accept that
attacker Shawn Sinvula from the Uncardables was just too strong. The
Uncardables winning the match 2-0 sets and gaining their second tournament
win this year. Third place went to the Jumpin Potatoes. Shawn Sinvula was
also vote as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Male Player of the tournament
while Corinna Wahl was chosen as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Female Player
of the tournament.

DTS/Maerua Superspar Beach Volleyball- & 4-a-side Social Tournament
The first of 7 tournaments this year took place on Saturday with 34 teams participating in this season opener 2010 in perfect weather conditions. The 2-a-side Beach Volleyball teams had the privilige to play on upgraded Sandcourts that is easily comparable to real Beach sand from the coast.
5 Ladies 2-a-side teams took part and they played in a round robin format to determine the best team. Swiss/Canadian combination Brigitte Looser/Nicole Giberson were one the favourites and they managed to win their first game in a very tight 3 set match 21-13, 17-21, 15-10 against 2008 champions Wiebke Hoeritzauer/Antje Kesselmann, who played their first tournament together after a 1 year break. Swakopmund based player Lizette Roettcher playing with young upcoming 16 year old Julia Laggner, learner at DHPS school, managed to win against Looser/Giberson 23-21, 21-17 in a very close match. Roettcher/Laggner were in winning mood and managed to win all their games, losing only one set to Hoeritzauer/Kesselmann and clinching the Ladies title of the first tournament. Looser/Giberson came second ahead of Hoeritzauer/Kesselmann in third place.
The Men competition saw 9 teams competing. RSA based player Karthi Pillay was playing with Namibian Volleyball icon Joel Matheus and they managed to win their first round match against the no. 1 seeded team and last years champions Mwita Sikopo and Rector Mbeha in 2-1 sets. Sikopo/Mbeha had to fight their way back in the loser's round and managed to reach the semi finals where they were facing no 3 seeds Deon Cloete/Ruben Delie. Sikopo/Mbeha were too strong for Cloete/Delie, winning 2-0 and reached the finals where they were facing Pillay/Matheus who qualified for the finals by beating no 4 seeded team of Walter Farmer/ Jerome de Wee. Sikopo/Mbeha wanted to make up for the loss against Pillay/Matheus in the first round and did that in great style winning by 2-0, clinching victory in the first tournament 2010. Third place went to Cloete/Delie.
The Youth competition attracted only 4 teams, 3 of which were mixed teams. Corinna Wahl/Ingo Fischer won all their 6 matches in a double round robin format. Runner up were Nadia Risser/Christopher Rix with Christoph Thesen/Jens Doll in third place.
The 4-a-side social category recorded a record number of 16 teams, which shows a great demand in the social volleyball scene. After the DTS 2010 Volleyball for All, many teams want to play volleyball on a regular basis. The best 8 teams were Woema Putte, Nature Reserve, The Uncardables, Forequartes, Farmers Attack, Jumpin Potatoes, Fx Fitness and Loose Cannons. In the semin finals the Woema Putte lost 2-0 against the Jumpin' Potatoes, while The Uncardables beat the Loose Cannons 2-0. Last years overall winning team, the Jumpin Potatoes were facing The Uncardables in the final where they attacking players of The Uncardables was just too strong and they lost the match with 2-0 giving The Uncardables tournament victory. Third place went to Loose Cannons.
