Historic Silver Medal for NAM Beach Volleyball
1st African Beach Games
sal, cape verde
DTS Beach Volleyball athletes Kim Seebach & Julia Laggner and coach James Verrinder made Namibia proud with a silver medal winning performance for senior female beach volleyball category at the 1st African Beach Games which took place in Sal, Cape Verde, between 14th -23rd June 2019.
After several great competitions over the last 5 years including 5th place at the CAVB Cup of Nations in 2015 and 7th place at the CAVB Continental Cup Finals in 2016, participating was not enough for Seebach & Laggner, and they set out to dominate their competition, ultimately finishing second overall following Morocco, who won the final.
They beat Morocco & Congo in the pool stages, Angola 2:0 in the quarter final and Kenya 2:0 in the semifinals. With a guaranteed medal to take home, they played Morocco again for the gold medal. Morocco produced their best performance of the Games and won the final 2:0, 21-18, 21:15 which left the NAM girls with a historic Silver Medal.
Next up for the Namibian women’s beach volleyball team is a trip to Morocco for the All African Games in August 2019.
