The sixth & penultimate Timeout Beach Series 2018 event of the year, the Fabupharm Swakop Masters 2018, will be hosted at the beautiful setting of Mole Beach, Swakopmund, the perfect combination of sun, sea and sand.
The Fabupharm Swakop Masters 2018 saw a massive turnout of around 100 athletes participating in 4 categories; 2-a-side Men’s, Social, Youth Boys and 4-a-side Mixed.
The 35 teams weren’t just playing to become the Fabupharm Swakop Masters 2018 Champions; they were also fighting for prize money, trophies, medal & goodie bags, kindly sponsored by FABUPHARM NAMIBIA.
We are very thankful to have Fabupharm as our tournament sponsor after sponsoring the Swakop Masters event every year since 2015. We are very grateful for their support and are looking forward to working with them again in the future.
The Mixed 4-a-side category saw 6 teams battle it out, in a round-robin format. In a very closely contested category, Intercity Beach Blockers A, Beach Ballers, Silent Killers & finished 4th, 5th & 6th respectively. It was very tight for bronze medals with Intercity Beach Blockers B coming out on top with 3 wins and 3rd place.
The fight for the gold and silver medals, we saw two very competitive teams; Smooth Operators & Med Lemon. Smooth Operators came out on top winning 2:0, 21;16 & 22:18 in the head to head match and becoming the Fabupharm Swakop Masters 2018 4-a-side Champions.
The 2-a-side Social competition once again a round-robin format was played with 14 teams, split into three groups, fighting it out to finish in the top 2, plus 2 best 3rd places and the chance to play a quarter-finals.
Very quickly in Group A, two teams showed great form with Tobias Mwatelulo & David Esilon going undefeated and Jan Jenson & JP Jooste only losing one match to move into the quarter- finals. In Group B, it was a similar story with Mark Brinkmann & Heiko von Ludwiger winning all their pool matches and Hendrik Kotze & Rufus Shawana only losing one. They both also advanced to the quarter-finals.
In group C, Tuafeni Ntinta & Labban Festus won all their pool games and Thomas Hänert & Piet Smith lost just one and they also advanced. The two best 3rd places can from Group A (Anna Baumgart & Moni) and Group B (Lara Lüsse & Michael Fente)
All the four quarter finals were very exciting matches and with Mark & Heiko, Tobias & David, Tuu & Labban and Hendrik & Rufus advancing to the semi-finals.
The first semi-final saw Tobias & David beat Mark & Heiko 2:0 and advance to the final. The second semi- final only took 2 sets with Tuu & Labban beating Hendrik & Rufus.
3rd place went to Hendrik & Rufus with a great performance with a tight 2:1 win over Mark & Heiko.
The final right from the start was a tight match and It took 3 sets to separate the teams, with Tuu & Labban beating Tobias & David winning 2:1, 18:21, 21:19 & 16:14 to finish top of the podium.
The Youth Boys category saw 3 teams playing in a round robin format, winner takes all. All the three boys teams also participated in the Social 2-a-side category and played 7 matches over the weekend.
The first match saw André Utz & Max Bock beat Daniel van Wyk & Ian Hooks 2:0, 21:12 & 21:11. The second match was also a strong performance from André & Max beating Rico Steinfurth & Kevin 2:0, 21:12 & 22:20. The final match ended up as the decider for 2nd and 3rd place and an exciting 3 set match was a fitting end. Daniel & Ian came out on top 2:1, 21:10, 18:21 & 15:12.
This all meant that André & Max to became the Fabupharm Swakop Masters 2018 Youth Boys Champions.
The Men’s category, like the social 2-a-side, saw 14 teams, split between 3 groups, play pool matches to determine the quarter-finals. Group A, Klaus Striewe & Leander Schatz dominated the group winning all their matches with the 2nd place team of Abiatar Andreas & Taonashe Phil Manyanga also advancing to the quarter finals.
In group B, a similar pattern developed, with Conrad Johannes & Jan-Eric Sack winning all their games 2:0 and Salomo & Fillipus Nangolo Lyetuyene only losing one match finishing in second. Group C also continued the trend with Stefanus Kangandjera & Andriko Boehringer winning all their pool matches and Jefta & Junias only losing one.
The quarter finals all went to the form book with Stefanus & Andriko, Klaus & Leander, Conrad & Jan-Eric and Salomo & Nangolo all advancing to the semi-finals.
The first semi-final was between Klaus & Leander & Conrad & Jan-Eric, with the win going to Conrad & Jan-Eric 2:0, 21:10, 21:10. The second semi followed a similar pattern with Salomo & Nangolo winning 2:0, 21:18 & 21:16.
3rd place was taken by Klaus & Leander, beating the younger team of Stefanus (18) & Andriko (16) 2:0.
The men’s final proved to be a great spectacle of beach volleyball skills & tactics from both teams and it took 3 sets to separate them with Conrad & Jan-Eric winning the tight match 2:1, 21:13, 15:21 & 15:12 to take the title of Fabupharm Swakop Master 2018 Men’s Champions.

The fourth of 7 Timeout Beach Series 2018 events took place at DTS Beach Arena, Windhoek. The Interpack King of the Court 2018 saw a great turnout of athletes participate in 7 different categories; 2-a-side Men’s, Ladies, Social, Youth Mixed, Experienced Mixed, one vs one and 4-a-side Mixed.
32 teams participate in this unique beach volleyball event. Each category, limited to 5 teams, played one after the other throughout the day. The teams played three timed rounds. 1st round – 20 minutes, 2nd round – 15 minutes, FINAL round – 15 minutes. The teams with the lowest points in the first and second rounds will be eliminated and the FINAL round will decide the podium positions among the last 3 teams in the category.
Namibia treated us to a beautiful, warm day, perfect for beach volleyball. This fast-passed tournament provided us will many exciting rallies, great defence and athletic point winners. Special mentions go out to Bernhard Schurz & Michael Fente for competing in 3 different categories, taking 3 & 2 silver medals respectively. Also to Andriko Boehringer for winning 2 categories: Experienced Mixed with Maike van Doorn & one vs one.

The third of 7 Timeout Beach Volleyball Series 2018 events took place on Saturday at DTS Beach Arena, Windhoek. The Retirement Fund Solutions Winter Classic 2018 saw a massive turnout of over 100 athletes participate in 5 categories; 2-a-side Men’s, Ladies, Social, Youth and 4-a-side Mixed Social.
The 30 teams weren’t just playing to become the Retirement Fund Solutions Winter Classic 2018 champions; they were also fighting for a cash prize pot, divided between each category, kindly sponsored by RETIREMENT FUND SOLUTIONS.
The Mixed 4-a-side category saw 6 teams battle it out, in a round-robin format. It was very closely contested for silver and bronze medals with Net Violaters & Starshine Volleyball Academy taking 3 wins each and the match between the two teams decided the medal positions. Starshine VC won the match taking 2nd place, leaving Net Violaters in 3rd. The clear winner in the 4-a-side category was Wildcats, winning all their 5 matches without dropping a single set and becoming Retirement Fund Solutions Winter Classic 4-a-side mixed champions. Gespikkeldeminiatuurgroentekewers won the best team name at the tournament.
In the 2-a-side Youth Mixed competition, 4 teams played a round-robin format. The brother and sister combination of Lina & Julian Horenburg finished in 4th after fighting hard but not able to find a win. Nicole Stubenrauch & Sven secured the bronze medal by winning half of their matches. Shelli Starke & Lars Fischer won 3 out of 5 matches and finished in 2nd place. The title went to 11-year-old Marco Utz & his 14-year-old brother Andre Utz, who dominated the category, without losing a game, and taking the gold medal.
The 2-a-side Social competition, once again a round robin format was played with 5 teams.
Midway through the pool stages we unfortunately had an injury to Jeffrey Hass, and he was unable to continue, and he and his son Patrick had to withdraw. We at Timeout Beach Series 2018 and all the teams at the Retirement Fund Solutions Winter Classic wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the sand very soon.
The first semi-final saw Niklas Gerber & Nino Leicher beat Nikolai Pfeifer & Fabian Hass 2:0 and advance to the final. The second semi- final also only took 2 sets with Abiatar Andreas & Mutasa Kudakwashe beating Hencock & Smash.
3rd place went to Hencock & Smash with a consistent performance with a 2:1 win over Nikolai & Patrick. As the sun started to set the final was ready to take place. Right from the start it was a tight match but It took only 2 sets to separate the teams, with Abiatar & Mutasa beating Niklas & Nino winning 2:0, 21:14, 18:21 to finish top of the podium.
The Ladies category saw 5 teams playing through the day to find the best 2-a-side ladies team. The ladies played a round robin format with the top 2 teams playing a final. Rosi Hennes & Simone von Wietersheim won all 4 pool games and qualified as favourite in the final. It was much closer with the other 4 teams, and some close matches eventually saw Catherine Thomas & Hendrina Lindongo, Maike von Doorn & Lara Lüsse and Sonja Sieburg & Lara Fischer taking the other semi-final spots.
The first semi-final was comfortable won by Rosi & Simone 2:0 and advancing them to the final. The second semi-final was a much tighter match. Eventually Cathy & Hendrina winning in 3 sets to meet Rosi and Simone in the final.
In the 3rd / 4th place match Maike & Lara showed some great teamwork after the disappointment of losing the semi-final match and won the match 2:0 and took home the bronze medal.
In the final Rosi & Simone continued their dominance with a strong 2:0 win over Cathy & Hendrina and becoming the Retirement Fund Solutions Winter Classic Ladies Champions 2018. This is now Rosi & Simone’s second RFS Winter Classic tournament win in a row.
The Men’s category, 10 teams, split between 2 groups, played pool matches to determine the semi-finals. In group A, Steve Kangandjera & Panashe Chiguta winning all four pool matches to advance to the semi’s. The same pattern also happened in group B with Bernhard Schurz & Brandon de Jager also winning all 4 matches.
The first semi-final saw Luke & Jan-Eric out play Ishitile & Jefta, winning 2:1, 21:18, 16:21 & 15:9. The second semi saw a convincing win for Steve & Panashe over Bernhard & Brandon, 2:0, 21:14 & 21:13.
The bronze medal went to Bernhard & Brandon after a great performance over Ishitile & Jefta, winning the match 2:0, 21:18 & 21:19.
The much-anticipated Men’s Final took place in under the floodlights just after another beautiful sunset and in front of a large, noisy crowd. The first set was a tense, close affair, with both teams trading points. Eventually the Luke & Jan-Eric opened up a two-point lead, which they held to the end, winning 21:19.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Steve & Panashe tried everything, but weren’t able to get ahead on the score board and Luke & Jan-Eric finished of the second set and the match 2:0, 21:19 & 21:17 and becoming the Men’s Retirement Fund Solutions Winter Classic Championship 2018.
